Established in 1957, the department of Engineering Mechanics at Jiaotong University is one of the earliest mechanics majors in China, and has been selected as the first batch of national key disciplines and the “Double First-class Disciplines to be constructed”. It offers 4-year undergraduate programs (containing two training modules: engineering mechanics and engineering structure analysis), in which outstanding graduates will have the opportunity to be recommended to Master’s program or directly to doctoral program, or to be selected for further study in world renowned universities, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge University, Oxford University, etc. A considerable number of postgraduate alumni are working in national key universities or national key industries such as aerospace, national defense, electricity, oil, and energy and power. Notable alumni include professors in Harvard University, Brown University, Columbia University, and Cambridge University, two NAE (US National Academy of Engineering) members, one CAS (Chinese Academy of Science) foreign academician, one CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering) academician, and several provincial government officials.
