With the establishment of aviation major in 1933 and the establishment of the Department of Aviation in 1942, Jiaotong University is one of the first universities in China promoting aviation education. In 2005, the Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics Engineering was established, starting to provide 4-year undergraduate program for students majoring in flight vehicle design and engineering (containing two training modules: flight vehicle design and aerospace propulsion). As the “Program with Distinctive Features at the National Level” acknowledge by the Chinese Ministry of Education, it offers bachelor’s degree programs, in which outstanding students will have the opportunity to be recommended to Master’s program or directly to doctoral program. With the support of “Project 985 (project aiming to create first-class universities)” and “Double First-class Project” (Constructing world first-class university and world first-class discipline), related facilities for education have been greatly improved. Large numbers of graduates choose to continue their studies in or out of the country, others choose their career in fields like aerospace, energy and power, and national defense, carrying out scientific research, design and high-level technological management in universities and large enterprises.
